Jacques Coeur

Compagnie Financière Jacques Cœur. History of a name.

The company activities were started in 2003 by François-Xavier Bouis, who lives in rue Jacques Coeur in Paris, nearby Bastille Square.

This made up a good inspiration for the company name, as Jacques Coeur happens to be a remarkable French historic figure, a man who favorably combined commerce and finance.
He was able to serve the state, as an argentier (banker of the court) for King Charles VII, as much as he served his own interests, by trading all sorts of goods across Europe and the Middle East.

Under many aspects his story looked like a novel given the flying ascent and the sudden decline.
He got imprisoned by order of the King, as his glory had become worrying.
His vast fortune triggered a lot of jealously, notably for the extraordinary construction of Bourges Palace, one of the greatest in France.

His free spirit became his trademark when developing new business ventures, and his contacts with the state enabled him to further his trading enterprises, bonding his own interests with the ones of the Charles VII, known as « King of Bourges ».

Located in the historic center of Bourges, Jacques Coeur Palace is one of the most magnificent examples of the 15th-century Gothic civil architecture.
The palace well depicts the striking achievements of the powerful merchant and statesman.
